Translation Methods

There are various methods or ways of translation such as translation, interpretation, consecutive, sequential, and simultaneous. Starting with the translation, According to the dictionary of Merriam Webster translation is the instance, process, or an act of rendering between 2 languages. In other simple words, it is the transferring of written text from one language that is known as the source language into another language that is known as the target language. This process focuses on conveying and delivering the original meaning of the source text. The language skills that the translator needs are the ability to play with words, and the stylistics and grammar’s deep knowledge.  Moving to the second type is interpretation. Basically, interpreting is known as the reproduction of the spoken language into oral one. Interpreting has the main focus that is paraphrasing the content, unlike translation that is considered more accurate and exact. The interpreter needs some language skills such as proper articulation, spoken language’s flawless command (Pralovska, 2020).

Moving to the consecutive translation that is considered a type of oral translation. In this type, the speaker makes pauses that are necessary for the interpreter to perform the translation for all that has been said. This type is used in events that have a limited participants’ number (AFIM, 2021). After that comes the turn of the sequential translation. This type is also made by the interpretation during the intervals between phrases and sentences of the speaker. These pauses are made at the normal and ordinary pace of the speech of the person for separating several complex sentences or paragraphs (Idioma, 2021). Finally, simultaneous interpretation is a highly complicated version of interpretation that needs special equipment for being achieved. Such type is considered quite modern as its appearance is related to the UN’s creation in 1945 as well as the numbering trials (AFIM, 2021).
